I am a mother of two and the founder of Links to Literacy, a literacy consulting company. After eight years home with my children, I went back into the school system during the 2011-2012 school year! In 2013, I will begin a new job as a Staff Development Teacher.
My children have been exposed to books since birth (before, if you count the books I read to them in utero). When I taught, my classroom library was a focus of my room. Through this blog, I hope to provide tips and tools, and occasional book reviews, to help parents and educators enhance the literacy lives of children.
My first book titled, Teaching Comprehension with Nonfiction Read Alouds: 12 Lessons for Using Newspapers, Magazines, and Other Nonfiction Texts to Build Key Comprehension Skills was published by Scholastic Teaching Professional Resources in 2010.
I also blog at Picture This! Teaching with Picture Books, where I look for high quality literature that can be used to model reading comprehension strategies or the six traits of writing.
It is my goal to make this blog a resource for educators and parents, alike. If you like it, please share it!
